In response to the challenges being faced by run specialty retailers across the country, the Running Industry Association (RIA) has announced they will defer member dues for all new retailers and offer current members an option to defer until January 2021 as well. This is part of the association’s “Keeping You Running” initiative designed to help retailers survive the mandated closures and economic downturn associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The most immediately impactful benefit for new retailer members is the discounted freight program that can save them 35 percent annually. This comes into play now as stores are shipping products direct to consumers via e-commerce platforms or phone sales. 

“This is the least we can do to support the channel during such a difficult time,” says Terry Schalow, executive director of the RIA. “All of our efforts are aimed at retail survival, including a COVID-19 Resource Guide that is available to the channel regardless of if they are a member.”
